Expanding dual-task research by a triple-task

چکیده
Abstract Multitasking research in the laboratory is dominated by extremely simplistic dual-task paradigms. Although dual-tasks allow for some variations, they do not compare well to more complex everyday task settings. This study expands a classical paradigm adding third task. The and triple-task always consisted of same three single tasks. aim was investigate effects combinations single-tasks which manner response times costs increased. Stimulus-response pairings were varied either once within participants (E1) or between (E2). Our results showed that increase time from triple-tasks only 43% suggesting non-linear cost Moreover, each subtask higher situations compared single-task situations. contrast dual-tasks, typically one two responses delayed. Cognitively, triple-tasks, unlike coordination seems play larger role classically suggested relationships stimulus terms their modality- ideomotor-compatibility we will discuss. Overall, demonstrates current multitasking limited its generalizability focusing on would benefit with

Time Course of Attention during a Volleyball Jumping-Serve Using a Dual-Task Paradigm
In the present investigation we determined the time course of attention demands during the jumping service in volleyball by the dual-task paradigm. Fourteen voluntary junior elite volleyball players performed 60 jumping serve. Jumping-serve performance (JSP) as primary task and verbal reaction time (RT) to an auditory stimulus that was administered in four probe positions (PP), as secondary tas...

Most studies using the Psychological Refractory Period (PRP) design suggest that dual-task performance is limited by a central bottleneck. Because subjects are usually told to emphasize Task 1, however, the bottleneck might reflect a strategic choice rather than a structural limitation. To address the possibility that central operations can proceed in parallel, albeit with capacity limitations,...

the aim of this study was to compare the effects of three types of balancetraining: single task, dual task under fixed priority instructional set (fp) and dualtask under a variable priority instructional set (vp) on the balance of the elderly.the participants were 36 elderly over 65 years old from kerman province whowere randomly divided into three groups (each 12 subjects) based on burg pretes...
متن کاملDynamics of the Central Bottleneck: Dual-Task and Task Uncertainty
Why is the human brain fundamentally limited when attempting to execute two tasks at the same time or in close succession? Two classical paradigms, psychological refractory period (PRP) and task switching, have independently approached this issue, making significant advances in our understanding of the architecture of cognition. Yet, there is an apparent contradiction between the conclusions de...
متن کاملNeural correlates of dual-task performance after minimizing task-preparation.
Previous dual-task neuroimaging studies have not discriminated between brain regions involved in preparing to make more than one response from those involved in the management and execution of two tasks. To isolate the effects of dual-task processing while minimizing effects related to task-preparatory processes, we employed a blocked event-related design in which single trials and dual trials ...
